Trauma

Psychological trauma is a common cause of physical and psychological ill health. Sometimes the trauma will be consciously remembered, as in PTSD, sometimes it will be wiped from the conscious mind, but remains stored in the unconscious. There are psychological techniques which can deal effectively with both such scenarios.

For PTSD, I usually use the rewind technique, a NLP technique, as modified by Joe Griffin and Ivan Tyrrell at Mindfields College. This is a very effective technique for the mast majority of traumas. It also has the advantage of being quick and non-voyeuristic. Details of this technique can be found on the Human Givens website at www.hgi.org.uk/archive/rewind-technique. In cases where this technique is unsuitable, or if the client prefers, I will use EFT, information about which can be found at www.emofree.com.

In the case of traumas which are not consciously remembered, the sufferer will not usually even be aware that there has been any trigger for their problem and assume it is just the way they are or, in the case of physical symptoms, due to some physical cause. In such cases experience has shown that the hypnotic techniques of relaxation and guided imagery often result in the subject spontaneously remembering a traumatic experience, and when recalled in this way, the resulting symptoms often tend to dissolve very quickly, without massive effort on the part of the subject or the therapist.
